Major Changes of HTML5 in On-Page SEO Optimization

SEO is one of the most popular Internet marketing techniques used by many web masters in the World Wide Web today. It aims to increase a website’s traffic through search engines, particularly among major search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and Bing.

Recently, a major change had happened in traditional web design ethics. This is because HTML5, or some of its modules, was finally introduced into the market. According to many web design Manila experts, these new markups had caused many to change their practices dramatically so as to accommodate the many new changes that HTML5 had brought.

Other than web developers and designers, SEO was also affected by this major change, particularly with their on-page SEO optimization methods. Here are some of those changes:

Some popular markups introduced by HTML5 were with the use of section tags. It works as a way to separate different elements found in a single web page, such as separating the navigation bar, the side bars, images, as well as articles from each other.

According to many SEO services Philippines companies, this major change in web development had also affected the way on-page optimization is done. Their old practice usually involves making their web pages as keyword rich as possible by adding keywords on the content of the website as well as in its coding.

These new markups, though intimidating at first, served as an opportunity to make their websites more “search engine friendly” compared to their old practices. This is due to a popular rumor that major search engines, such as Google, will put more weight on websites optimized using the new markups.

One example of those opportunity is that the use of section, and other popular HTML5 markups such as header, footer, article, and nav which gave SEO specialists new places to insert their keywords. This also allows them to focus more on optimizing one section of their web page than focusing on all elements found within.

Disadvantages of HTML5

There are, however, a number of drawbacks of HTML5 that had affected SEO. One such effect is that HTML5 will remove a number of HTML tags which were useful in SEO in the past. Such tags include the Alt tag which is mostly found in image tags.
